West Winds Cabin is a thoughtfully designed mountain home in the heart of Big Bear. This isn’t a retreat from life. It’s a base for it. Ski in the winter, ride in the summer, paddle when the lake calls, then return to a space that feels steady, warm, and entirely your own.
Your stay begins here. Find the perfect time to escape to the mountains.
West Winds Cabin sits perched on the mountainside, west-facing and open to long golden skies. Inside, the open main level is intimate and considered, with floor-to-ceiling windows that blur the line between indoors and out, and a wood-burning fireplace that draws everyone close. Both bedrooms are upstairs, rising into 11-foot A-frame ceilings for a treetop feel, supported by two full bathrooms. Outside, the deck, fire pits, and separate hot tub create space to unwind beneath the stars. Bordering protected BLM land, the surroundings remain quiet, wild, and close at hand.
The bedrooms
The bedrooms are designed as a balance between restraint and expression—where mid-century modern simplicity meets the warmth of a mountain cabin, with a subtle sense of play woven throughout. Walnut wood paneling anchors each space in rich, natural texture, while a grounded palette is punctuated by unexpected pops of color and collected pieces. Art, objects, and layered textiles bring personality and contrast, creating rooms that feel curated but never precious—warm, inviting, and just a little bit unexpected.
Front Bedroom
West facingRich green tones and walnut wood paneling create a cocoon-like warmth, while expansive windows open to sweeping mountain views and dramatic sunsets that shift by the minute. As the light fades, the room settles into something more intimate—dim, textured, and quietly atmospheric.
Eclectic art and collected pieces punctuate the space, adding depth and a slightly unexpected edge.
East FacingBack Bedroom
Floor-to-ceiling windows frame a canopy of pines, where early light filters in gently, casting a natural glow across creamy textiles and warm walnut paneling. The palette leans light and layered—ivory, sand, and soft neutrals—creating a space that feels both calming and expansive.
Thoughtfully collected art and objects add moments of personality throughout, giving the room a sense of discovery without ever feeling crowded.
The living spaces
The heart of the home is an open living space designed for gathering, with the kitchen, dining, and living room flowing together under expansive windows and natural light. The kitchen brings a deeper, moodier tone with dark green cabinetry and black finishes, softened by open shelving and colorful, collected pieces on display. The living room is bright and playful, with vintage furniture in rich jewel tones, layered textures, and a wood-burning stove at its center, while the dining area offers a window-lined setting for shared meals.
The outside
Set into the mountainside, the outdoor spaces are made for taking in the views and slowing down. The wraparound deck faces west, making it the perfect spot for sunset dinners, morning coffee, or stargazing at night. There’s space to gather, cook, and dine outside with a BBQ and comfortable seating, while a tucked-away side patio offers a more private setting with a firepit and hot tub. Keep an eye out—you may spot bobcats, burros, or coyotes passing through, a reminder that you’re sharing the space with nature.
The details
This is a home built around the details—the small, thoughtful touches that make a space feel collected rather than decorated. Artwork throughout tells a story of place and personality, from vintage photos of Big Bear and California to playful pieces like hand-drawn donkeys and unexpected, slightly whimsical finds.
