Check-in & Access

DRIVING
The cabin is located down a private dirt road that crosses over a dry creek bed. A 4x4 or AWD vehicle is strongly recommended, particularly during winter months.

PARKING

  • Maximum 2 vehicles

  • Please park fully within designated spots

  • The driveway is shared with the home below — please ensure your parking allows access to the near by home.

ENTRY ACCESS

  • Front Door Code: Smart Locks: Last 4 digits of the cell phone number provided. Please note that your code will activate at check-in time and deactivate within 30 mins of check-out.

  • There is a security alarm, but please do not arm. There will be no need to touch this during your stay.

  • If the automatic front door does not open, use the lockbox located on the fence. Please message via the app for the code to the lockbox.

  • 4x4 or AWD is highly recommended in winter

  • Cabin is located down a dirt road

  • The road is typically plowed only after 6 inches of snowfall

  • Chains may be required — check current conditions via Caltrans

If extreme weather conditions make access to the cabin unsafe or impossible before your arrival, the reservation will be canceled and a full refund will be issued in accordance with our cancellation policy. Once guests have arrived, the reservation remains in effect during weather events, and we ask that guests plan and prepare accordingly.

House Rules

COUNTY NOTICES
Guests must abide by the county rules for Short Term Rentals outlined here. Should the guests have found to be in breach of any of the rules, they will be responsible for any fines and fees assessed as a result of the violations.

HOUSE RULES

  • Quiet hours begin at 10:00 PM

  • Maximum occupancy: 6 guests

  • Maximum pets: 2 dogs (with prior approval and cleaning fee)

  • No parties or events

  • No smoking anywhere on the property

FIRE PIT (Propane)

  • Propane fire pit is available

  • If the tank runs out, refills are available at Vons (guest expense). We attempt to ensure the there is propane available upon arrival, but can’t guarantee the levels.

  • Always follow current fire restrictions

DECK & STAIRS
The deck is elevated. Please use caution and supervise children at all times.

HOT TUB

  • Quiet hours begin at 10:00 PM

  • Maximum 6 people at a time

  • The hot tub is serviced weekly, depending on the date of your arrival, a service technician may visit during weekdays (M–F)

  • Please avoid lotions or oils before use

  • Use the gray towels provided for the hot tub

  • Hot tub heats at approximately 4 degrees per hour

  • Must be covered when not in use

Heat, Fireplace & Power

HEATING

  • Manual thermostat — set to your desired temperature

  • Heat takes approximately 30-60 minutes to fully warm the space

WOOD BURNING STOVE

  • Free to use; firewood is provided. Wood is stored outdoors and may be damp — you may wish to purchase dry wood locally

  • Fire must be fully out before sleeping and the stove door closed.

  • Ash bucket is provided, if needed. Please scoop any excess ash from the wood burning stove and into the metal bucket. It is located by the deck stairs, and should be returned there after using.

PLEASE DO NOT

  • Use the wood burning stove during high winds (smoke may blow back into the house)

  • Burn paper or non-wood materials as fire starters

POWER OUTAGES

  • Heat does not rely on electricity and will remain on

  • Candles and flashlights are located in the bathroom closet of the first floor bathroom

  • Exterior stair lights are solar-powered

  • For outage status, check Bear Valley Electric.

Hot tub

HOW TO CONNECT AUDIO

  • Press Mode buttons until you reach “Audio” then press (+) to enter settings. 

  • Navigate to “Power” then press (+) to turn the audio system on.

  • Navigate to “Setup” then press (+) to enter setup mode.

  • Navigate to “Pair” then press (+) to start Bluetooth pairing.

  • Open Bluetooth Settings on your phone.

  • Select “My Spa Music.”

  • When prompted, enter PIN: 0000.

HOW TO DISCONNECT AUDIO

  • Press Mode buttons until you reach “Audio”. Press (+)

  • Navigate to “Power” then press (–) to turn the audio system off. 

Bathroom & Water

HOT WATER

  • Standard hot water tank

  • Back-to-back long showers may deplete hot water

  • When multiple people are staying at the cabin, we recommend 15-minute showers or spacing them out

  • Tank reheats in approximately 30 minutes

SEPTIC SYSTEM

  • Please flush toilet paper only

  • No feminine products, wipes, or chemicals in toilets or sinks

LAUNDRY

  • Vintage washer and dryer available if needed - please notify us if you’d like to use them and we will provide the key to access them.

  • Please clean the lint trap after each use

  • Do not leave the dryer running when leaving the cabin

PAPER ITEMS & SPONGES

  • We don’t believe in throwing away minimally used items. Therefore, upon your arrival there might be less than full toilet paper and paper towel rolls, as well as open sponges. We will always leave additional rolls and sponges available for your use.

Kitchen & Appliances

COFFEE/ESPRESSO MAKER
The kitchen is equipped with a Breville espresso maker and grinder. An instructional video can be viewed here

GRINDER
For espresso, set grinder to fineness level 6 for 8 seconds to grind directly into the portafilter.
For french press/pour over, remove the portafilter holder and set grinder to fineness level 38. Select desired number of cups.

DISHWASHER

  • Located to the left of the sink

  • Hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn on

  • Select 60-minute wash, press start, and close the door

STOVE/OVEN
New and fully functional. Given the open layout floor plan, you may need to open a window to prevent the smoke alarm from being set off.

GARBAGE DISPOSAL
Switch is located above the stove and is labeled. Please note that it is connected to our septic system and therefore we ask that it not be used to dispose of large amounts of food waste.

TRASH
There is no trash pickup at the cabin. Please leave all trash in the garbage cans provided. It will be removed by the housecleaner upon check-out. Additionally, there are local disposal sites in Big Bear where you can drop of any trash, if necessary.

If you are booked for longer stays, the property manager will be in contact to arrange a weekly pick-up.

FOOD STORAGE
Do not leave food or trash outside. Wildlife is active in the area. Please note, that any food left at the cabin will be disposed of by house cleaning.

PANTRY
We don’t believe in throwing away good food. Therefore, we will leave for anyone’s use unexpired pantry goods:

  • Olive oil

  • Flour

  • Sugar

  • Canned beans

  • Salt, pepper, seasonings

  • Butter

  • Salad dressing

  • Mayo, ketchup and mustard.

The availability or amount might vary from time to time, and additional items maybe be available upon arrival. If there is something specific you would like, contact us and we will see if we can arrange it for you.

Wildlife &
Outdoor Safety

Wildlife Awareness
The cabin borders BLM land and is surrounded by forest.
You may see bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, wild burros — and occasionally bears or mountain lions.

  • Do not leave food outside

  • Do not leave pets unattended. The fence keeps dogs in, not wildlife out — always monitor

Snow & Ice

  • Always carry chains in winter

  • A snow plow service clears the driveway and stairs when possible

  • Snow shovel and salt are provided at the driveway and front door

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

  • Take all personal belongings

  • Load and run the dishwasher. Please note that if there are dirty dishes left in the sink, an additional fee of $25 will be accessed.

  • Leave any used towels in the baskets in the bathrooms

  • Set thermostat to 55°

  • Unplug any space heaters

  • Press the lock symbol on the door to secure the cabin

  • Please do not arm the alarm system

  • Make sure any fire within the wood burning stove is fully out and doors to stove are closed.

& FAQs

Bedrooms Feel Cold?
There is one main heater, located on the first floor. If bedroom doors are closed, they may feel cooler.
Space heaters are provided in each bedroom.

Extra Blankets, Sheets & Towels?
Stored in the drawers beneath each bed.

Snowed In?
Please monitor weather reports and plan ahead.
Heat will remain on, and roads will be cleared when conditions allow.
Stock food and water as needed.
If you are unable to leave at the schedule check-out time due to weather, please contact us.

Cancellations &
Weather Policy

STANDARD CANCELLATIONS

  • Cancellations made 14 days or more prior to arrival are eligible for a 50% refund.

  • Cancellations made within 14 days of arrival are non-refundable.

VEHICLE ACCESS & ROAD CONDITIONS

  • No refunds will be issued due to a guest’s vehicle being unable to access the property.

  • A 4x4 or AWD vehicle is strongly recommended, particularly during winter months.

  • Guests are responsible for monitoring weather and road conditions and arriving prepared, including carrying chains when required.

EXTREME WEATHER POLICY (Prior to Arrival Only)

  • In the event of extreme weather conditions prior to arrival that make access to the cabin unsafe or impossible, the reservation will be canceled and a full refund will be issued in accordance with this policy.

  • Extreme weather is defined as snowfall in excess of 9 inches within a 24-hour period, or other severe conditions that prevent safe access as determined locally.

ONCE YOU’VE ARRIVED

  • Once guests have checked in, the reservation remains in effect should extreme weather occur.

  • The cabin is equipped to remain warm and functional during storms, and guests are expected to prepare accordingly.

LOCAL ORDINANCES & EVACUATIONS

  • Guests are required to follow all local ordinances, emergency advisories, and evacuation orders.

  • If guests are required to vacate the cabin due to an official evacuation or safety order, refunds will be issued for the nights that are unable to be used.

Legal Disclosures

Guests acknowledge that the cabin is located in a mountain environment and that outdoor conditions, weather, terrain, wildlife, snow, ice, and access roads may present inherent risks. By booking and staying at the property, guests assume responsibility for their own safety and the safety of all members of their party. The owners and property managers are not liable for injury, illness, accidents, loss, or damage to personal property arising from conditions outside of their reasonable control.

Guests agree to use the property, amenities, and surrounding areas at their own risk and to exercise reasonable caution at all times, including but not limited to the use of stairs, decks, hot tub, fireplace, and outdoor areas.
